Space Scientist and Project Director at ISRO | IEEE Leader.



Chandrakanta Kumar is a celebrated space scientist and Project Director at U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bengaluru, with twenty-four years of experience in designing antennas and RF systems for Indian satellites and deep-space programmes.
He has designed antennas for more than twenty spacecrafts including Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, the Mars Orbiter Mission, RISAT, GSAT-19, GISAT-1&2, CARTOSAT-3 as well as ground stations like the Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN-32), and transportable terminals.

He holds an MSc (1999) in Electronic Science, MTech (2021), and PhD (2012) in Radio Physics & Electronics from the University of Calcutta and completed the Space Studies Program at the International Space University, Strasbourg, France. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Fellow of West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology (WAST). He is also a Senior Member of IEEE, USA.
Dr. Chandrakanta Kumar has made significant scholarly contributions in the fields of Antennas, Electromagnetics, Microwave Engineering, RF Systems, and Space Applications. His research spans high-impact IEEE journals, international conferences, and specialized publications in electromagnetic theory and applied systems. His work reflects sustained contributions to space communication technologies and advanced antenna systems, with global academic and research recognition.
